"If your forte is comedy, then you're mostly offered such roles because you have been typecast as a comedy hero. Even when you think you're ready to graduate to other type of roles, it us unlikely the industry allows you to do so," Venu said.

He himself hasn't ever said no to comedy films.

"I enjoy playing such roles and I think they are my strength too. But, I also feel that as an actor, I want to experiment with other roles too. I'm keen on playing characters for the masses, but all I get is comedy films," he added.

Venu is known for hit comedy Telugu films such as "Hanuman Junction", "Pellam Oorelithe" and "Sri Krishna 2006".

Queried why he doesn't demand parts in films of other genres, he said: "An actor doesn't usually go in search of a film, instead it comes to him or her. However, films that come to me, mostly belong to comedy genre. I take them up because I can't keep saying no to every other film."

Venu returned to silver screen in a lead role with "Ramachari", which released Friday, nearly after four years.

"I did a couple of cameos in the last two years. I spent lot of time on 'Ramachari', which is very close to my heart. It was supposed to release nearly a year ago, but we had some technical issue with the film's output, and, therefore, had to delay the release," he said.

As of now, he has two Telugu films in the offing.

<![CDATA[Beauty, talent essential for long career: Vithika Sheru]]> 2013-05-17 12:36:58 content She may be just 19, but southern actress Vithika Sheru believes that for a long career in films, it is vital to have a perfect combination of beauty and talent. She says it's important to strike a balance between being glamorous and playing performance-oriented roles.

"Beauty and talent in appropriate proportion will help an actor to have a long career. Especially, if an actor is doing films in multiple languages, then it comes in handy. While in one language you might be expected to be glamorous, in the other, you could play deglamorised roles," Vithika said.

"I consider it important because it helps you to be open to different roles," she added.

Vithika made her cinematic debut at 15 with Kannada film "Anthu Inthu Preethi Banthu", followed by another Kannada film "Ullasa Uthsaha".

She is currently busy shooting for upcoming Telugu romance "Prema Ishq Kaadhal".

"Initially, I was scared to be part of this project, which also features two more heroines. I feared that my role would be sidelined. But, I knew that to survive in this competitive industry, I need to prove with my performance," Vithika said.

The film, directed by Pawan Sadhineni, also features Harshvardhan Rane, Vishnu, Harish, Rithu Varma and Srimukhi.

<![CDATA[Mythological characters a hit with audiences: Telugu director]]> 2013-05-17 09:37:15 content Telugu director Venkat Pampana, who has included a mythological character in his upcoming socio-fantasy "Nenu Chala Worst", says such characters are always loved by the audiences - provided they are presented in an interesting way. "Mythological characters have been used in cinema since its inception. In fact, there was an era where most films were made after some of these characters. Audiences still love mythological characters, but they expect innovation," Venkat said. "There have been so many films on Yamraj and Ganesha, but how many do we remember off the bat? Only if we do something exciting with these characters, will audiences enjoy and remember them for a long time," he added. However, Venkat believes extra care needs to be taken while handling such characters. "We need to be very careful while dealing with mythological characters. Most of these characters are worshipped as gods in households and, therefore, it's important to not alter their identity for a film or do something that may likely stir controversy," he said. How do you know what is acceptable? "Nobody knows what is acceptable, but it's better to not to change too much. We can't change something that's been around for years and expect audiences to embrace it," he added. In "Nenu Chala Worst", Nandamuri Taraka Ratna will be seen as Yamraj. "We haven't changed much about the character Yamraj, but we have changed the environment around him with computer graphics. There are about 25 minutes of graphics used in the film and we have also filmed a song on the character," said Venkat. Nandan, Neeraj, Krishna and Swapna play key parts in the movie, jointly produced by P.S.S Goud and T. Naresh Goud.

The film is slated to release in June.
